One of the most anticipated festivals every year by the Balinese people is the Nyepi festival. The New Year celebration is a way of purifying and cleansing themselves to be blessed with good and bountiful crops and harvest. Nyepi festivals are held sometime between March and April, and the full moon feast is held at the end of September. A highlight of the event is the parade and competition of different villages with their creations and interpretations of the ogoh-ogoh or monster, as part of the exorcism ritual on Nyepi's eve. People also gather outside to participate in the singing, dancing and music, and these colorful festivities, which focus and culminate on the Hindu temple, are always a welcome treat for both the
travelers and the local crowd.
