The Cannes
Film Festival is predominantly an event for film industry professionals and the press. The Cannes Film Festival exists as an indirect result of the rise of the fascist regimes in
picturesque wonderful Europe during the 1930s. The event's roots date back to 1932 when the first competitive international film festival was held in Venice.
In those days, the festival and its awards were as much about the national prestige of the participating countries as it was about the films. In last year's festival, The
Holy Grail is of the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) for best picture, one of the most prestigious awards a film can receive anywhere. The 59th Cannes Film Festival will take place on May 17-28 2006.The line up for the 2006 festival has yet to be announced. Cannes is a city and commune in southern France, located on the Riviera.
